Studies:

Oboe studies at the Academy of Music in Malmö, ( Teacher prof. Jörgen Hammergård, Copenhagen )theory and conducting – both choir and orchestra – at the Royal Academy
in Stockholm ( Among techers prof. Eric Ericson ) and finally orchestral conducting with diploma at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland (teacher prof. Jorma Panula ).

Jan Risberg is the first Swedish conductor to receive a diploma in orchestral conducting
from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
The resulting diploma concert took place in Malmö 1990 with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.

Profession

He has been working with professional orchestras from Sweden, Danemark and Estonia, conducting regular symphonic programmes, contemporary music and opera performances.
There have also been some television engagements – a festival concert at the Nobel Prize ceremony, a 45 minute programme about Swedish contemporary music for Slovakian Television in Bratislava, a TV-concert for Swedish TV 2 with Dalarna Sinfonietta and the guitarsoloist Göran Söllscher, former winner of the prize “Concours Internationale de Guitarre” in Paris 1978, a one-hour programme for France Television, among others.

Since 1982 he has been the leader and conductor of the Swedish contemporary music ensemble Sonanza.
With this ensemble Jan Risberg has visited many contemporary Music Festivals in Europé
and the U.S., made 11 CD productions, many radioconcerts, some TV-programmes and several tours. They have made around 300 first performances.
For some years ago there was a CD production released by the French company Erato
with Jan Risberg both as conductor and arrangement. It was made together with the worldmusician Ray Lema and with a symphony orchestra from Sundsvall, Sweden.
This production was presented in a one-hour programme in many european countries. The production has also been listed in top of a worldmusic toplist made of the european broadcast companies.

Between his engagements as conductor, he is also teacher in contemporary music at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and at Södra Latins Gymnasium, Stockholm.
